The Origin of the Use of RFIDIt is said that Leon Theremin was the first inventor of the RFID, who then used it as a part of a spy kit created for the Russian Government. This was in the year 1945; but is not a reliable story. This is because the tool that was used by Theremin was a passive covert listening device and in no means, an identification tag. Since then, the technology in RFID has developed greatly. It was in 1939 that the IFF transponder which used a more relevant technology was developed. This was used by the British in the Second World War for the detection of airplanes of both friends and enemies. RFID is used with various wavelengths This technology uses radio waves to identify people or objects by the storage of some identification data on the chip that is connected to an antenna. This information is received by a reader, converted into digital information and then passed to a computer to be made used of. RFID technology is used mainly in payment systems, access controls and asset tracking. It has wide applications in the logistics industry, in electronics and technology areas and in other applications like toll collection, item management, health care and automobile immobilising. The radio frequency utilized here can be used in radio communication. Radio waves are divided into gigahertz, megahertz and kilohertz and range from low frequency of ranges from 10 to 30 kHz to high frequency that ranges from 30 to 300 GHz. The different parts of an RFID system It is the resilience of RFID that makes it suitable for automatic operation. It can work in different environmental situations whilst producing a high quality of data integrity. And as the technology is difficult to stimulate, RFID offers an advanced level of security. It is the radio waves that communicate between an item with an RFID device and an RFID reader. The device used can have any information about the item like its description, how much time a device needs to pass through a particular area and information like temperatures. These tools can be connected to anything, even vehicles. A typical RFID system consists of an RFID tool with data of an item, an antenna for transferring signals between the reader and device, a receiver that generates RF signals and a reader that collects RF transmissions from an RFID tool to be forwarded to a host system for its processing. There is also an application specific software used in the system. Types of tags used in the system There are two types of tags used in an RFID system; active and passive. The passive ones lack an independent power supply whilst the active one has its own power source of extensive range and more memory than passive tags. Moreover, active RFID tags can accommodate more data; however it is because passive tags have cheaper manufacturing costs that they are more in use.
